Alaska is full of deadly bears

I leave for Alaska in less than one month, to perform at a Dinner theatre.

I have done a bit of research...

I'm scared..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_fatal_bear_attacks_in_North_America_by_decade

These are fatal bear attacks listed by decade. Notice that there are very few listed back in the early 1900's, yet tons listed in the last 30 years. Hopefully this is because it was tough to document such attacks 100 years ago...if this isn't the case, humans have become far worse at avoiding brutal bear attacks.

Oh, this is my first blog, i hope to update it as much as possible during my Alaskan adventure.

Hopefully the last picture you see isn't the gaping maw of a black bear.

I know a little bit about bear attacks and what to do thanks to my North Woods father in law. We'll talk at your going away thing.

Also I have a friend who goes to Alaska all the time and he says the only people who get eaten by bears are idiots that go into the woods without a gun. So just don't go into the woods much. Or get a gun.

Once you get to AK, buy some pepper spray - better than a gun. I worked in the Alaskan bush for a season (for a mining company) and we encountered bears about 1/week on average. Just be loud - if they know you're coming they'll avoid you most of the time (i.e. unless cubs are nearby).

have fun Lanny!

Here's what I learned working at a summer camp...don't run uphill, don't climb a tree and don't smell tasty...the end.

Have fun!

That would be a pretty incredible final picture, considering you would have to take the picture - upload it to your computer then post it here on the blog...
Unless you take the picture with your phone and are able to blog from your phone... but that always sucks.

Alaska is closer to Portland than to Chicago.

Are you going to visit?

I'm assuming this will end the same way as Grizzly Man but will be funnier along the way.

I thought at first you said "fetal bear attacks" and that didn't seem very scary.
