Long time no write

I've been avoiding blogging lately.

I think it has to do with the facts that yes, I am in Alaska, and yes I am performing but at the same time, this is still a job, a really incredible job, in an amazing place, a job nonetheless.

The last week was pretty good. Just falling into my schedule more and more. Two days ago on Monday we had Open Mic night and Mai-Tai did another couple of songs. Then Andy, Mel and I did an improv country song that we titled "I love the way you Love me" It started out pretty rocky, but ended up being good...if not a bit offensive, still it was a highlight of the evening.

Yesterday I went with fellow cast-mate Sarah Beth and her boyfriend Chris to Healy, where we taught improv and acting to 17 highschool boys. It was fun and a bit strange. A good outing though.

Tonight i'm going to the show on the other property.

At the moment i'm watching Hockey for my first time. Um...go penguins?

Open Mic Nite

Tonite was Open Mic Nite, hosted by my roommate Andy. I've been looking forward to it. Because of my schedule, Mondays are my Fridays, so i decided to head on out. Here is a shot of me playing "Dear Chicago" by Ryan Adams

Andy opening the show with some country jams.
Katie, Andy, Mel and I doing The Band's "The Weight" Andy bestowed upon me the second verse, It was a monumental day.

Mel and I doing "Going Back to Georgia" We have a band name, Mai-Tai.
I'm glad I was able to play a bit. It gives me reason to practice, I want to have a new song to do every week.

4:22 in the morning

We had a great series of shows tonight...

It is late, we had drinks, we celebrated.

I just wanted to say that I miss all of my friends in Chicago and elsewhere. I have had some pangs of homesickness, but i'm doing great.

Dave and Debbie

Ok. So as i was entering my last post, Dave and Debbie saw my blog. The blog location is a secret to the cast, i want them to read it at the end so they can get a warm feeling remembering all of the good times. Also, there needs to be photo documentation for those nights where things get a little fuzzy. Anyhow, they were annoyed that i haven't mentioned them in the blog yet. So here it is...the above picture is of Dave and Debbie they are two of my best friends up here, and will now appear more frequently in the blog.

You happy now Dave?

Camping trip

So I went on my first camping trip ever the other night. This is our activities director Patty "helping" me set up my tent. My job was to watch and learn.

There was a 4 hour guitar jam, which was pretty incredible. Everyone was just swaping songs and guitars.
I want to do more camping this season, hopefully on our days off we are able to.
Oh...the show has opened and everything is going well. I'm ready to fall into my schedule and just start working.
My days off are Tuesdays and Wednesdays for those who want to call.

Singing to the Mountain

Yesterday, following tradition, we travelled out to Primrose to sing to Mount McKinley. Right now most of you are thinking "Oh my, Tyler singing to a mountain...I bet he LOVED that" Actually i did, it was pretty incredible. Here are some nice shots from the day.

Here is Mel, and Dave inside of Mel's bus....it is awesome, although i'm pretty sure we almost died going up the hill to the gas station.

This is either a moose, or the original grainy picture of Bigfoot.

Finally, Here is a picture of McKinley, we are still 150 miles out and you can see a whisper of it above the mountains in the front.

Cinco De Mayo

There are two shows up here at the park, Music of Denali and Cabin Nite. It is a tradtion for both casts to get together on May 5th and have a meet and greet/drink fest It was a long night but a great time. Here is a picture of (LtoR) Jill, Andy and Nova. I don't know what is happening in this picture. Although it is a perfect picture of Nova, she is so full of joy it is impossible not to smile around her. I am having trouble being a sarcastic jerk around her...DAMN IT!

After the Cinco party, we went up the hill to an impromptu party at Bub's subs. Not sure who the guy in the sombrero is, but he pretty much had to be in the picture. Good times.

Poetry

If I ever write a book of poetry, this will be the cover. The book will be called "Long path through the trees, that leads to poetry-ville: A poetry book of poetry"

My First Nature Hike

The other day I went on my first Alaskan nature hike. We went to Horseshoe Lake, it was a great hike, a five mile hike....I had assumed we were only going a mile or so, but when you are a mile deep you can't just stop, so i was in it for the long haul. It ended up being well worth the trip...

Above are a few pictures of the hike. The first picture is of the Nenana River, which i continually call the Banana River, the joke has gotten pretty old according to my castmates, i'm gonna keep it up, eventually it will become funny again....i'm pretty sure that is how it works.

The second picture is of the view of Horseshoe Lake...which is still frozen.

Oh...also no bears yet. I thought maybe we would see one by the lake but there were none to be found. I'm thinking about putting an overflowing picnic basket in a clearing, then hiding behind a tree.

Nenana River

On the way out into the park we stopped by and took a shot by the Nenana river.

Thanks to Scott for the picture...

P.S. I have started an event out here in Alaska called "Bear-watch 2008". So far no bears...I will keep you all updated on any bear related sightings/maulings that occur.
